Common Japanese Truck Parts You Might Need and When to Replace Them
Freight delivery of goods, raw materials, and manufactured products is done by trucks. The same thing is true with specialised cargo like refrigerated goods, hasardous materials, or fragile items. But not only for transportation, trucks are also used for construction works, agricultural activities, logistics and delivery, public services, and military and defense purposes. Because of their heavy-duty performance, they are also subjected to wear and tear.

To keep these trucks running smoothly, regular maintenance and timely replacement of parts should not be taken for granted. Here’s a list of common Japanese truck parts and when they should be replaced.
Engine Components
Gaskets and fuel injectors are replaced as needed or when leaks and performance issues arise. Timing belts should be changed every 60,000-100,000 km or as specified in the owner’s manual while standard spark plugs need new ones every 30,000-50,000 km but longer for iridium plugs.
Brake System
Brake pads, just like standard spark plugs should be changed every 30,000-50,000 km. For every 20,000 km, rotors and calipers should be inspected and replaced if warped or excessively worn. And as per the manufacturer’s recommendations, you need brake fluid every 2 years.
Suspension and Steering
Every 80,000-100,000 km or if there’s a leak, shock absorbers and struts have to be replaced. Also, tie rods and bushings must be inspected during every driving service and swapped with new ones if worn or causing vibration.
Tires and Wheels
It is a must to replace tires every 40,000-60,000 km or when the tread depth reaches 2 mm. Moreover, examine wheel bearings every 30,000 km and substitute them with new ones when noisy or loose.
Electrical System
Every 3 to 5 years, the battery must be replaced or if it fails to hold a charge. If there are performance issues or major overhauls, the alternator and starter motor must be changed. And also, during maintenance, check wiring harnesses for damages.
Transmission System
The clutch is replaced every 100,000-150,000 km or if slipping occurs. On the other hand, transmission fluid is replenished after 40,000-60,000 km or as per the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Cooling System
The replacement time for coolant is every 2 years or every 40,000 km. Inspect hoses and radiator every 20,000 km and change them if brittle, cracked, or leaking.
Exhaust System
During every service, mufflers and pipes must be checked for rust and damage, so it’s time for their replacement. Normally, catalytic converters last over 160,000 km but may be changed earlier if emission tests fail.
Filters
Replacement for air filters is every 15,000-30,000 km, fuel filters every 20,000 – 40,000 km, and oil filters every 5,000 to 10,000 km.
Lighting and Glass
Bulbs must be substituted with new ones as soon as they dim or fail and wipers changed every 6-12 months, depending on wear.
